sticky fingers and a not so great paint fume buzz. that's how we rang in the new year. last weekend we did a wedding show here in tacoma and decided to redo our old booth a couple days beforehand. thus we did not get to go out and celebrate with friends on new years eve. instead we sanded, melted, painted, glued, taped and basically made a huge giant mess working away and staying up until sunrise. in the end it was worth the effort, working on the new booth was a breath of fresh air that we both needed. next weekend we will be up at the seattle wedding show showcasing our beeswax collage art. i decided to get a head start on the pieces and displayed a few last weekend at the tacoma show. last year i focused on larger pieces with lots of detail work (you can check out a few here). this year i am heading in a different direction with simple small pieces hanging in cluster formations. i am excited to see how they all come together this week. i just got a big box of wood panels today, so now i can complete the clusters. it appears as if this is going to be another wonderful waxy week.
jon's new years project was to make us a sign/camera out of a cardboard box, pretty cool huh?
(i have a feeling the next cardboard project is a slide guitar).
i had to display this clay camera that jon made this summer. not only is it beautiful but it can also function as a pinhole camera. you can check out more of jon's pottery over on his website and i've written about it over here. the bowl next to the camera is also a jon almeda original. i am a big fan of his porcelain coral series. most of these pieces never leave the house because i love them a little too much.
i was excited about how this cluster of three small beeswax photos from erin and greg wedding turned out. i am planning on adding two more pieces to this row now that more panels have finally arrived! the photographs are printed on tissue paper and then covered in a mixture of beeswax and resin. i am loving these tiny little wood panels which are 4x4 inches and 2 inches deep.
a couple more images on tissue with beeswax over the top. these two are mounted on 5x7 panels.
if you are planning on attending the seattle wedding show next weekend, please stop by our booth. you can find us on the 400 row, we will be at booth # 423. come say hello and check out our new beeswax photo clusters. see you soon!
