Pickering Barn - sarah & tim

any wedding that has tiny corn bread muffins for appetizers and a berry pie instead of cake has my heart. then throw in the cutest couple, bright orange bridesmaids dresses with pockets, fluffy and perfectly simple hydrangeas, talented family musicians strumming and singing, tons of twinkle lights, homemade marmalade, lots of mason jars, a cool retro inspired photo booth and guest book, bbq for dinner and a simple country theme with a perfect venue to boot and you have got yourself, one dandy celebration!

the wedding was at pickering barn in issaquah, washington. if your local and looking for a photo booth, the quality of images from 3-2-1 foto  is the best i have seen. i always prefer the old school vintage photo booths ( we go way back). but as far as digital booths go, 3-2-1-foto has it dialed in!

On the fourth of july

watching vinyl flags float
out the car window
behind piles of used tires
and an open sunday sign.

red, white and blue
like beach kites overhead
makes me miss the salty air
in the quiet twilight
before our sky explodes
in patriotic bliss.

top image - jon made a pinhole camera today out of a small matchbox. somehow we ended up at jeff's used tire shop taking test shots next to walgreens. got to love one hour photo even on the fourth. and running off to watch fireworks while you wait for your film to develop. you won't believe what he is up to in the pottery studio. i will not spill the beans. the time is not right. although i really want to...hint, it involves clay and cameras. shh, I didn't say anything.

Kiana Lodge - jessica & brian

jessica and brian are one cool pair. relaxed, light hearted, open minded and majorly in LOVE. their chemistry was so natural and wonderful. am really starting to think there is something to the whole "distance makes the heart grow fonder" concept. i know that jessica and brian will do whatever they can to stay as close as possible now that they are married. they have put in their time away over the last couple years. now it's time to relish in togetherness!

jessican and brian couldn't have chosen a more beautiful spot in the puget sound to marry! kiana lodge is steps from a rocky washington beach in poulsbo. every which way you turn there are huge trees, totem poles and flowers blooming. the ceremony was outside in the spring sunshine with a perfect blue sky as the backdrop. my favorite part of the ceremony was when the best men from both of their parent's weddings stood and did a reading about the power of love. what a cool idea. am wondering if they knew how long their duties as best man would last? both seemed quite happy to contribute. the lodge itself is a work of art and the food is to die for. there is even an impressive native american basket collection on display. i enjoyed wandering the grounds with guests as the sun slowly went down and the fire outside started to glow.

Missing Maine

but looking forward to california this weekend and a lovely farm wedding. did a quick stop at home to wash clothes, drop off film, pick up more gear and say hello to friends. am eager to return home to all the film i handed over to the lab yesterday. one very over stuffed ziploc sandwich bag full of undeveloped smiles, messy hair and big beautiful eyes. can't remember exactly what all i shot, but i am hoping for a little maine magic. as i wait, i'm reminded of one of my favorite photo quotes.

"I never have taken a picture I've intended. They're always better or worse."

here's to hoping for better.

Snippet and Ink!

exciting news! one of our favorite weddings from this year is featured over on snippet and ink today!
SnippetandInk-H&B1 SnippetandInk-H&B2 SnippetandInk-H&B3

heather and barry are so adorable and sweet and were such a complete joy to photograph! two artists in love who trusted us completely. we smiled the whole day as we captured their tender love, beautiful details and twinkly reception. we are just tickled that they are featured on such an inspiring wedding site today! am thinking that starting your day off with lots of exclamation points is really the best way to go!!! read kathryn's post on "snippet and ink" over here and all of my blog posts on their awesome laguna wedding here and over here. i especially love these shots created with one of jon's homemade lenses named big papa. in addition to today's feature, jen over at "green wedding shoes" created a beautiful layout with our photos from heather and barry's wedding a few months ago. anyone who loves weddings will find inspiration in their thoughtful details, stunning locations and amazing chemistry!!!!!!

The Cutest Library, ever.

this one is for you mom. and for anyone else who loves libraries, an amazing view and a bald eagle fishing right outside the window. the library in somesville is only open ten hours a week. how lucky were we to drive by five minutes before it closed today? very!

Lilacs and Laundry Lines

enjoyed a country drive to bar harbor, looking out the window with tired red eyes. it's interesting leaving home on an adventure while most people are settling in for the night. to levitate above our beautiful glowing city, looking down like peter pan and tinker bell. flying straight into a premature sunrise as we fight the urge to sleep in an impossible position. greeting the new day in a completely new place. feeling guilt about having to waste daylight taking a nap. on our way from bangor to here we saw: lots of quaint hand painted signs and countless red wooden lobsters, a different artist's vision behind each one. at least a half dozen roadside lobster shacks with large cauldrons steaming like a witches brew. even more cute ice cream stands with sweet names like "the blueberry hut". actually spotted a large lobster sculpture holding a huge 3-D ice cream cone. am starting to see a theme here. watched tiny cemeteries with stories left untold and ancient farmhouses where you wish the walls could talk, pass by us in a blur.

apple and isabell, castine maine 2008

my favorite things out my window today, floral print laundry lines and purple lilacs blowing in the wind.

am excited to visit apple and isabell at their farmhouse this week and see how much they have grown.
